Art Sale!

Originally I did these to loosen up my style a bit, and to have a little fun (haven't had enough of it lately).  But after finishing a few, I thought that they may do very well at the upcoming MCAD art sale, so I did a bunch more!  If you're interested in owning any of these then you should go!  I guarantee you'll have a great time, and you'll also be helping out your local starving artist (underline starving).  I'll have many other things there for sale, too!  So, uh... Yeah.  You should totally go!!!

The Book Thief: part 2

I've had this done for a while, but I haven't had a chance to get to a scanner until now.  This is by far one of the most time consuming illustrations I've ever made, but with that being said, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.  The third one is on its way, but in my world that could mean a month from now... or more. *cough*

The Book Thief

Okay, so I recently finished reading The Book Thief, and I was totally inspired.  It's a great book, albeit it can be REALLY sad.  But anybody who even remotely knows me knows how much I like sad things, so this was right up my alley.  That being said, you should all read this book.  I doubt you'll be disappointed.

The book is full of great Imagery and I couldn't help myself but create some illustrations for it. Here's a synopsis for anyone who may be interested. This is the first image of three where Death (the narrator) sees the little girl Liesel (the protagonist).  Their encounters are obviously during sad and poignant moments in Liesel's life, but boy do they make for great illustrations!

Stay tuned for the second and third renditions.

Drifting

These are pretty old, but I thought they worked well for the Illustration Friday word of the week.  For those of you who can't tell, these are from the book The Life of Pi.  I'm really proud of them, and they've won several awards (not that that means anything).  Hope you like them too.

Onomatopoeia!

I've Had this idea for a while.  I'm sure this has been done before (probably better), but I decided to do it anyway.  Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet.  Maybe I'll make them into cards or something.  What do you guys think?

A Real Comic!

These are the first couple pages of a comic I'm making for MoCCA.  I've had this story in my head for quite a while now.  Actually, come to think about it, I first had this idea when we were driving back from the last MoCCA convention.

The story started out very simply, and for the most part was just supposed to be a funny little tale.  But now that it's almost finished, it's become something much more heartwarming, tragic and, although I hate to say it, about growing up (been done to death).  All in all I'm really happy with it, and I can't wait for all of you to see the rest of it!

HAIR!

Wow, it's been a while.  Sorry.

Anyways, here's something that I've been working on.  I want to do a series of drawings of peoples hair.  The one above is from a photo I found on Flickr, but I would prefer to draw people I knew, and that's where all of you come in!  If you don't think it too weird, I would love to get some photos of all of you.  So if you have a kickin' hairdo, or a tight ass beard, please, send it my way and become immortalized!

Here is a classic by the Cowsills.

SPRING!

Sometimes I worry that my work gets too tight, and I've been feeling like that especially as of lately.  So I'm doing a bunch of these very fast paintings that will explore color and composition primarily.  I'm hoping that this will loosen things up.

I'll be posting several of these in the next couple weeks, and all of them will be for sale.  I'm thinking 40 dollars?  So if you want one just let me know!

ABC

Okay, so I've been trying to think of some things that I can sell at the MoCAA convention this summer.  I know that there are a lot of people that would love to go, but unfortunately weren't able to get a table.  So I feel that I should really make it worth my while.

I have a few ideas for comics that I will be starting very soon, and as you can see above, this is also something that I might sell.

I've always wanted to do an A to Z book, and what better excuse to do one then right now!  At first I was going to do mythical creatures and such, but then I got the idea to dress cute creatures in different styles of clothes and subcultures.  I'm eventually going to color all of these, but I'm not sure the final book will be in color.  Too expensive.

Creepy

I'm going to make a bunch of these creepy girl drawings and sell them at the MoCCA convention this summer.

If YOU want one just let me know!  I think I'm going to sell them for 30 dollars.  Does that seem like too much?  Anyways, I like this, and it took absolutely no time to make.  Which. Is. Good.

More to come.

I'm doing a series of one panel comics on ways to kill Hipsters.  I have three more that I'm working on right now.  Them being: PBR, fixed-gear bikes, and thrift stores.  If you have any suggestions please let me know!

I know!  Fun!  Right?  ...maybe not?

Fleeting

So I went up to my parents house yesterday, only to have the misfortune of finding their cat Lilly, Dead.   She was a great cat, and I am REALLY going to miss her, but sadly, like everything in life, it could not last.

This didn't take very long to draw, and I understand that it's a little macabre, but it will help me to remember her, and also, help me to remember that dying is okay.

Sad.

Yeah I know...I SUCK!

Okay, so I've come to the conclusion that I am no good at blogging.  So if you expect something every week or even every MONTH, you are undoubtedly going to be disappointed.  Sorry.

That being said, here is a new illustration I did!  I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely love this piece!  Yeah, I said it.  Not all artists have to be self-deprecating reproachful nitwits. Well, at least not ALL the time.

Also, I might have some good news, but I think it's a little too early to say anything yet.
I will keep you informed... maybe.
